Are your pots handmade?

Yes. Every KALA terracotta pot is individually handcrafted by skilled artisans, not factory-produced or machine-made. As a result, slight variations in shape, proportions, surface texture, colour, and detailing are a natural part of the making process and make each piece unique.

Why does my pot have an uneven surface or irregular shape?

Because each pot is shaped and finished by hand, slight undulations, asymmetry, uneven edges, and variations in levelness are to be expected. These are not defects but characteristics that celebrate the handmade nature of the piece.

Why is the texture different from the product photos?

Each pot is individually handcrafted using natural clay, so no two surfaces will be exactly alike. Minor differences in texture and finish are a natural result of the artisanal process. Variations in lighting, photography, and screen settings may also cause slight differences in appearance.

My pot has small pits, marks, dimples, or surface irregularities. Is this normal?

Yes. Small pits, natural pores, firing marks, and subtle surface irregularities are common in handcrafted terracotta. These are part of the material and making process and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Why are there slight colour variations?

Natural clay and traditional firing methods produce subtle tonal variations from one piece to another. These variations are expected and enhance the individuality of every handmade pot.

Do the pots have drainage holes?

No. Our terracotta pots are crafted as décor pieces and therefore do not include drainage holes.

Can the pots hold water?

Terracotta is naturally porous unless it has been specially sealed on the inside. Our terracotta pots are not intended to hold water directly. If you wish to use them for fresh flowers, we recommend placing a waterproof vase or container inside.

Can the pots be used outdoors?

Yes, they can be used in covered outdoor spaces. However, prolonged exposure to heavy rain, standing water, or freezing temperatures may cause cracking, weathering, or other damage over time. To preserve their appearance and longevity, we recommend bringing them indoors during extreme weather conditions.

Will the base scratch my furniture?

The unglazed base of terracotta may have a naturally rough texture. We recommend placing a felt pad, coaster, or soft cloth beneath the pot when using it on delicate surfaces such as wood, marble, or glass.

Are the pots stable?

Yes. Most of our pots are designed with a wide, sturdy base for good stability. For very tall arrangements or decorative branches, adding a weighted filler or positioning the pot against a wall can provide additional support.

Do natural variations mean my pot is defective?

No. Variations in shape, texture, colour, surface finish, and detailing are an inherent part of handcrafted terracotta and are not considered defects. These characteristics reflect the individuality and craftsmanship of each piece.

Will I receive a colour confirmation before my order is dispatched?

Yes. For all coloured terracotta pots, we will share photographs of the finished piece for your approval prior to dispatch. As every pot is handcrafted and hand-finished, slight variations in tone and texture are a natural part of the process. Dispatch will be scheduled once your approval has been received.
